Residents of Westview Heights, get your flu shot!
Alberta says it will begin protecting some high-risk people against seasonal flu later this month before starting to immunize people against the H1N1 flu, likely in November.
Alberta Health Services says the seasonal flu shot will be offered to seniors, pregnant women, children between the ages of six months to 23-months-old and some other higher-risk people starting on Oct. 13.
Health Minister Ron Liepert says when the H1N1 flu vaccine becomes available the province will stop offering the seasonal flu vaccine.
An unpublished study has suggested that people who got a flu shot last year had double the risk of catching H1N1 flu compared to unvaccinated people.
However, the Public Health Agency of Canada has said a preliminary analysis of that study suggests there is no link between having a seasonal flu shot and developing a severe bout of pandemic flu.
